A friend in Texas sent me a bunch of small Lycoris Radiata bulbs last November. Unfortunately, UPS lost the package and it was over a month later that the bulbs actually got to me. Their leaves (which had been clipped for transplanting) were pasty white, and most of their roots had deteriated. The outside layer of the bulbs was soft, but not spoiled, and the bulbs were still firm and good inside. I planted these bulbs, and tried to provide mulch and shade for them to lessen their shock. But despite all I could do, most of them have lost their leaves. Will they be able to survive? Any guesses on when they will grow leaves again? This spring? Next fall? I dug up a few bulbs and they are still good inside. I know that Lycoris Radiata are tough as nails. Once I left some sitting outside in a plastic bag all summer before planting them (you must forgive me, I didn’t know what they were at the time). Any suggestions? All comments would be appreciated. |

As long as the bulbs aren't too small, you should see new leaf growth next fall. Unfortunately, you may not see blooms until yet another fall. After that, I would guess you will be living in red every autumn! "Tough as nails" is a really good phrase for them. |
