Foliage of Tulipa gregii began surfacing a couple weeks ago in the nursery. They are just now beginning to take off. T. clusiana is beginning with some activity, now.

T. gregii bloom buds are just beginning to surface.

T. gregii were in full bloom by the end of the first week of April. T. clusiana var. 'Chrysantha' was in full bloom a few days later. They are both finished now, blooms lasting a couple of weeks. Pictures will be available soon.

Here in USDA Zone 6b, I was most impressed this year with Tulipa marjolettii (images in the gallery). It starts out creamy yellow with reddened petal margins, then slowly fades to an off-white during the two week bloom period. I really liked T. orphanidea var. flava, too, which opened up with a boring, to me, green cast, but aged into something quite spectacular in color.
